Birthday Celebrations

(Before I get into it, I screwed up my Bloglovin' account and had to get a new one,
so if you still use it to read blogs, add mine here. Thanks!)

I turned thirty f*cking nine over the weekend. I just can't comprehend this. How did I get here? Where did the time go? I've never really been one to freak out over aging, but I feel a little different about being in the last year of my thirties. Yikes.

We don't have a hard and fast rule about celebrating birthdays. Jacob's birthday is three days after Christmas and then mine is two weeks later, so after the busy holiday season, it just depends on how we feel. Sometimes we spend the whole day at home. Sometimes we gather family together and go to a piano bar or hockey game. Sometimes we grab drinks and see a movie with friends. Sometimes we go on a date. Sometimes we take the kids out to dinner.

A few months ago, I planned a few days in Vegas for Jacob's birthday, but it fell through because his work schedule was up in the air. Turns out he got the time off anyway, but it was too late to rebook the trip. Boo! So for his birthday we sent the kids to his parents' house, saw a movie, went out for tapas, and spent the rest of the night at a bar arcade. It was pretty fun.

Jacob knew I was dissapointed that we didn't get to go out of town, so he planned a night away for my birthday last weekend. On Saturday morning, we drove five hours over the mountains to Spokane, Washington where our WHL team was playing. He's on a mission to go to one away game each season and this one just happened to fall on my birthday. (I'm not sure who this trip was actually for...him or me?) When we got there we walked around town, got dinner and drinks at a martini bar, went to the game where we won 5-2, got flights at One Tree Hard Cider, and then saw I, Tonya. That was the movie I was most looking forward to all season. He's a trouper for seeing it with me and turns out, he liked it as much as I did!

On Sunday morning, we had brunch and hit the road again. We were only in Spokane for twenty hours! But we wanted to take a different route on the way home so we could stop in Leavenworth. It's a Bavarian village in the Cascade Mountains known for river rafting and wine tasting in the summer and snow sports and Christmas festivals in the winter. Oh, and of course, Oktoberfest. This weekend was the Bavarian Icefest so we thought it'd be fun to check it out. We took a sleigh ride, saw snow and ice sculptures, drank more cider, and watched the fireworks show.

We got home at 10:00 pm and completely crashed. My boys let me sleep in on Monday, brought breakfast in bed, and presented me with brownies (I don't really like cake) and gifts. Then we went on a short hike, painted at a pottery studio, and got dinner at an Italian restaurant. It was a fantastic three days of celebrating. I'm so grateful for Jacob for making it special.

I never start new year's resolutions until after my birthday (although I did give up soda on January 1), so it's time to kick it into gear. I plan to make this my healthiest year yet. I can't go into my forties feeling like crap. I also have a lot to get done around the house (like interior painting, ugh) and want to start budgeting and saving better so I can plan more vacations. Here's to 39!

Sounds like a fun birthday, even if plans for your husband's big day fell through. Super gorgeous pictures at the winter festival. My husband turned 30 last year and we had a big party for all his family and friends to come hang but this year I think we're going on a trip to celebrate our 5 year anniversary over his b-day. I doubt he'll mind ;) Lol
You honestly don't look a day over 28!

I missed your birthday. :( I deactivated my Facebook, which is how I remember when everyone's birthdays are. HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY! Mine is right around the corner. Blah. 40 is almost here.

Glad you two had a great time. Y'all are so cute!
