Let's Catch Up

My kids start first and third grade tomorrow so I'll have some time alone and I'm hoping to post a little more regularly and actually comment on your posts and email back in a timely manner and all that stuff. I think I was waiting for school to start so our schedule would be less hectic, but looking at our calendar, that's just not the case. When am I going to get used to the fact that this is just my life now? I'm always waiting for a slow down that never comes.

I did make a good decision for myself and said no to a concert tonight. It's Mariah Carey and Lionel Richie. My friend and I bought tickets back in February, but Lionel had to reschedule the tour and the new date fell on the eve of the first day of school. I would have had to miss "meet your teacher" night and I was worried about not being home to tuck my kids into bed. Even though they love school, there are always a few butterflies before starting a new year. I've already seen Lionel and it was a fun show, but I was only going again for my friend. When she said she'd find someone else to take, I bowed out. What a responsible mom, I am! Plus, I've heard terrible things about Mariah's performance lately and wasn't really looking forward to it.

I've spent the last few weeks making all kinds of appointments for myself. I have a dentist appointment and a blood donation tomorrow. I made appointments with my surgeon and gyno, and got a referral to finally check out a three year old knee injury. I plan to go into an actual store and get some new glasses with my updated prescription. I'm also desperate for a mani/pedi.

Jacob is on a project at work that doesn't have a set schedule, so for a few weeks he'll be getting off around 2:00pm, for a few weeks after that he'll be on twelve hour days, and after that he's hoping for four ten-hour days or even a 5/4/9 work schedule for a few months. I'm crossing my fingers! It'd be so nice to go on day dates while the kids are in school!

Let's see...what else? We were insanely busy all summer and I honestly didn't have much time or energy for TV shows. However, after cutting the cord last spring, we just got cable again over the weekend, so I have a lot to catch up on. It was cheaper to bundle our phone and internet with cable than to just have the first two. We also got Starz and Encore because of a promotion. Is there any original programming on those networks? I've never had them before!

I also signed up for MoviePass when they announced their price drop a few weeks ago. For $9.95 a month you can see one 2D movie every single day. Since I see at least three movies a month, it's totally worth it. I just used it last week for Ingrid Goes West, which was great! I might be taking myself to some matinees now that I'll have free time during the day.

So yeah, I plan to kick fall into gear with some time to myself, some time with my husband, and getting my kids adjusted to a new school year. Now that Nolan has an ADHD diagnoses, he qualifies for a 504 Plan at school, so I'll be working with his school counselor to get that going. I'll also be volunteering in both of their classes and helping the PTA with all sorts of events. I just hope these 90 degree days go away and stay away for the rest of the year. I'm over it!

For $10 you can barely see one movie (even a matinee!) in my area, so you'll definitely get your money's worth! I've heard many times that bundles with all 3 can be cheaper than just phone/internet, but I don't have a home phone either! Day dates are my new favorite- awesome that you'll be able to spend more time with Jacob! I need new glasses too. I never wear mine because I hate the way they look on me (I purchased them over 9 years ago). I too love cancelled plans- sometimes! Especially when you weren't really that into it anymore. Good luck to the kids' new school year!
