The Good Stuff

The last few months weren't easy. On top of Jacob's surgery and recovery, the kids' crazy soccer schedules, my never ending cold, adjusting to my new job, and some other minor issues with the house and kids, I felt really overwhelmed and irritable. I just wanted to crawl under the blankets for a few weeks. Thankfully, I didn't let it consume me because I would have missed out on some fun stuff. Here's what I've been enjoying lately.

Comedians There is nothing better than a night out watching stand up and laughing your ass off! Jacob and I saw Jay Mohr in October and Meghan and I saw Sarah Colonna (and met her and her fiance, Seahawks punter Jon Ryan) in November. Jacob and I also have tickets to see Iliza Shlesinger in a few weeks.

Musicals My mom and I really liked If/Then. It was cute and funny with a sweet message, and Idina Menzel is definitely worth seeing live at some point. Her voice is so powerful. I also love that Anthony Rapp was in it! It was a fun mini Rent reunion (they were the original Mark and Maureen). I also saw The Sound of Music, which has been on my list forever. It's such a classic and did not disappoint. It was hard to not sing along though!

Movies We've taken the kids to a few movies lately, which is always fun. Peanuts was cute and exactly like the Charlie Brown shows and specials we've all already seen, which is probably what they were going for, right? The Good Dinosaur was cute too, though my kids said it was too sad. I definitely teared up a few times. The scenery animation was stunning in that one. As for adult movies, Mockingjay Part 2 was great! Critics are saying it's too gloomy and depressing, but that's exactly how that book was. I thought it was perfect. Room was devastating! I read the book earlier this year and thought it was fine, but because it's narrated by the kid it felt lighter than it should have and I was detached. The movie brings all the feelings to the front and it's amazing. Brie Larson and Jacob Tremblay are outstanding. Brie deserves all the awards! The Night Before was hilarious in subtle ways and laugh out loud ways. It also has heart, which I wasn't expecting. I loved the female supporting roles as much as the main characters. Great cast!

Music We've had three albums on repeat around here for the last few weeks. Adele is a goddess. My favorite tracks are Hello, Send My Love To You, Remedy, and Water Under The Bridge. One Direction's latest is pretty great! Our favorites are Perfect, End of the Day, Never Enough, Olivia, What a Feeling, Walking in the Wind, History and Wolves. Who I am trying to kid? I love the whole thing. And since Milo has such a huge crush on Ellie Goulding, we've been listening to On My Mind, Around U, Something In The Way You Move, and Codes. I also got tickets to see her in concert in April!

Television I watched so many movies because of the Fall Film Challenge that I seriously neglected my shows. I'm finally catching up! Scream Queens is fun and campy and I love every character and the music. Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is delightful! It's funny, light and fresh and it's one of those shows I watch the night it airs. Undateable is killing it in it's first live season and Master of None on Netflix is amazing! I'm also all about Vanderpump Rules and The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills right now, which are the only two reality shows I watch.

I feel like I've snapped out of my funk and things are definitely looking up. Jacob's knee has healed and he's off crutches, I finally went to the doctor and got meds for a sinus infection (just waiting for my ear to unlpug!) work has slowed down to about eight hours a week (which is what I wanted), soccer season is over and we don't start swimming lessons until January, I'm 90% finished with my Christmas shopping, we have tons of fun holiday activities on the calendar, and I'm feeling grateful and so in love with all the people in my life.

I'm so glad you're doing better!

I really want to see Room and Mockingjay. I'm off for the two weeks around Christmas, so I plan on seeing several movies in the theater instead of in the living room. I'm with you. The ONLY show I've kept up with since September has been The Walking Dead.

And oh my gosh! I love Iliza Shlesinger! I remember when she was on Last Comic Standing. It was the only season I watched start to finish.

I'm glad you've been able to fit in fun stuff to help with the funk. That can be hard to muster up the energy to do sometimes.

I thought the Peanuts movie was adorable. Mockingjay...meh. I liked it okay enough but it was not nearly as good as the rest of the movies. Which mimics the books since Mockingjay wasn't that great of a book compared to the other two.
