Just Can't Get Into It

Almost all bloggers out there post about things they love: current fashion trends, favorite shows and songs, or beauty products and tips. I love that about this community. I get turned on to so many things I may have never heard about or tried before. But this post is about things that are all the rave in blogland (or on all social media, for that matter) that I seriously can't get into. Don't get mad at me though! I sometimes get offended and defensive when people claim they hate something I'm passionate about (ahem, Empire Records), but I'm not here to make enemies. Anyway, here goes...

Sam Smith. He's such a bore! Of course he's talented and I love his vocals on Latch by Disclosure (not his solo version), but his songs are so slow and whiny and when he sings he looks like he's going to burst into tears at any moment. Not my thing.

Erin Condren. I fell for the hype a few years ago and got myself a LifePlanner, but wasn't impressed. It was too bulky, I hated the giant spiral, and had no desire to color code or use stickers for anything. I've always been a paper planner person but don't tote mine around so I find perfectly acceptable (and cute) ones at Target for under $15.

Pumpkin spice. Anything with pumpkin flavor makes me gag. Oh wait, one time I made a decent pumpkin cheesecake that I didn't hate, but I didn't prefer it either. I wonder if this food trend has an expiration date.

Monograms. I don't get why everything has to have your initials on it? Are you afraid someone is going to steal from you? Alright fine. Maybe I'm just jealous because my initials are ugly. I do like getting things with a "C" on them, but it almost always looks like a copyright symbol and that's not fun.

A Christmas Story. My dad loved this movie and we watched it constantly as kids, way before TBS ran 24-hour marathons. I liked it back then, but now when it's on I feel like it's just too noisy and I get irritable. It's also over-quoted and doesn't capture the Christmas spirit for me at all.

Selfies. Not all of them, just the ones posted for absolutely no reason that seem to say, "I'm just hanging out in my car at a stoplight. Tell me how pretty I am!" Or when someone's all, "I'm at the beach!" but there's no scenery in sight. Got on a cute outfit? Good hair day? Drinking or eating something delicious? Fun accessories? New makeup? Date night or hanging out with friends? Click away! I do like seeing your face, but I'll never understand ones with the captions like, "At the DMV!"

Family parody videos. I admit I loved Swagger Wagon when it came out, but it was an ad, professionally done, with actual actors. I cannot get into regular people setting up their tripods trying to get internet famous. Like bored housewives singing about too much laundry and whiny kids to the latest pop song. Or families singing their annual holiday letter instead of writing it out and sending it to the forty people who actually care. (I'm looking at you, Holderness family. Your new one is the worst.) BTW, SNL nailed it last Christmas!

Schmidt. Ladies looooove him and I just don't get it. I think he's hilarious and makes me laugh out loud episode after episode, but I'd never want to date a guy like that! He's a whiny weirdo and the reason they have a douchebag jar! I just don't understand the romantic appeal. If I had to pick a guy from New Girl, it'd be Winston. Nick is too grumpy for me. Winston is so underrated!

Wizard of Oz. It's a classic book and the movie was groundbreaking. Jacob loves everything by L. Frank Baum, but nothing he's done has ever been able to hold my interest. (Except for the movie Return to Oz because it was creepy. Plus, Fairuza Balk.) And don't get me started on Wicked. I'm the only person in the world who doesn't like it! The main roles call for actresses with serious pipes, but I just felt like I was getting screamed at for 2 1/2 hours.

Gender reveal parties. Of course I was excited to find out the gender of my kids and I even texted my parents, siblings, and a few friends as soon I learned what it was. I just can't imagine planning a party with special treats, party favors, and big reveal for everyone I know. Do people, besides those closest to you, really care if it's a boy or a girl? Some things don't have to be shouted from to rooftops, guys.

Ok, I'm done being grumpy. Bah humbug, right? I hope I didn't offend anyone!
Now tell me, what are some things everyone loves that you just don't understand?

I think I enjoyed this more than the the posts about what bloggers currently love! I have to be in the right mood for Sam Smith and he really does look like he is going to burst into tears. (It's probably the songs.) I cannot stand monograms!! I understand that this towel is yours, I promise not to steal it. Ugh Why don't you just pee on it and call it a day. Also cannot stand family parody videos or people trying to be internet famous by being obnoxious. I love Schmidt, but not in the romantic way at all. Total douche. I'm way too lazy to even think about getting together a gender reveal party.

YES to all of these except pumpkin flavored things, but I liked that before everyone and their moms thought it was cool. I also enjoyed Wicked, because it was the story told form another perspective, but I really really disliked The Wizard of Oz and The Wiz. I actually just saw A Christmas Story for the first time 2 years ago. I'm just not a huge fan of Christmas movies in general. Love this list!

I wouldn't say I love Sam Smith, but I do like him. I hate all things Pumpkin Spice. I'm not a lover of monograms or gender reveal parties. Schmidt is hilarious, but I wouldn't want to date him either. Winston is amazing!

I got my first Erin Condren planner a couple of months ago. I think it's helping me stay more organized with cheer, baseball, work events, kid events etc. I have a few complaints about it, but overall it's been helping me keep my shit together. I put stuff there and in my phone. Double reminders is nice. It is huge, but I always carry a huge purse so it's not that big of a deal to me.

bahaha love this! i only know one of sam smith's songs and i quite like it. i looked into his others, but they all sounded the same as the one i liked, so i just stuck with that one. Schmidt - ew! so true. i would not date him or anyone like him. Nick is definitely way too grumpy. I don't get monograms and hate anything pumpkin sweet flavoured.. i quite like pumpkin soup (when my mum makes it). gender reveal parties make no sense to me.

I can't stand Schmit! Ugh!!! And I have never watched A Christmas story 'gasp' I'm only organised at work and try to keep track of things on my phone. Also, here in Belgium pumpkin is NOT a thing, at all

haha love this idea of this post. Who talked trashed about Empire Records??!! lol

I feel like Ed Sheeran is whiny :/ I don't like him at all but I can see why you might not like Sam Smith.

Love Schmidt but I don't like him romantically... lol he's a terrible boyfriend option.

Selfies get the most likes on my Insta and I'm sure if I posted a pic of myself every day I'd get more followers but I'm like "who wants to see my face every day??" lol

Yes to almost all of these! I love my Erin Condren planner, but I also totally get that they're not for everyone. And I still giggle at A Christmas Story, although Elf has long since replaced it as my favorite Christmas comedy. Oh, and I adore Wicked.

But yes. Sam Smith. Boring! Schmidt? Total d-bag! Winston for the win! And I'm SO over selfies. Ugh!

I'm one of those people that knows I'm not going to order or care about the calendar I use, so I skip reading those post. So, I didn't even know the name "Erin Condren". And, I don't know Schmidt either. But you asked a question, and I shall try to answer...
Things other bloggers seem to love that I don't understand...
I'm pretty much out of the loop with almost all television...so I'm totally out of touch with hot shows, the obsession over Netflix, and I don't even know what Hula is (or is it Hulu?).
Ben Stiller and any movie Ben Stiller is in. (We have discussed this before, haven't we?)
Staged photos for instagram - you know the ones - with the white backgrounds and strategically placed items. Give me a selfie anyday over the staged photos.
Starbucks - I don't drink coffee...so you know, I can't relate, and I don't get the obsession over Starbucks.

I agree with you on so many of these -- monograms (why?), Sam Smith (yes, whiny), Schmidt (I'm not even sure I could be friends with him without getting annoyed), and pumpkin spice everything (give me apple any day). I enjoy a few of the other things, but meh ... to each their own, right?

I love a good selfie with something noticeable in the background, but I don't need to see you in your car or THE WORST in the bathroom in a mirror. And if you need to post that, then just come out and say I think I look great right now. I respect that.

I pay a lot for my planner and liked Erin Condren a lot, but love Plum Paper more. This is my second year.

I use my initials for everything but NOT my monogram.

I rarely listen to the radio and if it's not country I probably haven't heard it so other than 2014 Stay with Me, I don't know one song Sam Smith sings. LOL that he looks like he's going to cry everytime he sings. I'm a big fan of finding out what genders people are having, and a cute little surprise would be cute but not a whole party. I do like the photo shoots people do with the gender reveal. Being from KS and living somewhere else means I get Wizard of Oz jokes all the time. Don't turn on NBC tonight they're doing the WiZ special. Blech! PSL is gross and I'm picky about my pumpkin period.

Hahahahahaha yes to all of these...almost. I don't get the Erin Condren thing. It may be cute but soooooo expensive. Plus really, are we gonna keep is planner for the rest of our lives?! No. Lol Sam Smith makes me cry. I think he's like Adele just male. Love both but I'm so over with the sad songs. Selfies are the worst. I mean they are fine if you want to send one. But I know ppl who take selfies just because they cannot think of anything else...how about the food, or the cloud, the presents, what not? No, a selfie it is...staged so they look fake and "pretty". I catch at least two to four girls in their cars taking selfies. Why?!? Why?????????? And don't get me started on the pumpkin spice stuff...everything is now Pumpkin flavored. Yuck. And I'm gonna leave it at that otherwise this comment is going to be loooooooong

I've tried using planners and I just can't. So planners in general aren't my thing. I totally get people using them, but I feel like constantly Instagramming staged pictures with the planner in it is weird, which I know some big bloggers do.

I've never understood monograms. I live in the Pacific Northwest and I know it's HUGE in the south, so maybe that's why I've always been like, "I don't get it." I also think it's weird to put your initials in the 'wrong' order. Like, your last initial is in the middle. Because I read from left to right (as does everyone else), so it just confuses me.

And yes, dumb selfies are annoying. Or over-selfie-ing. Car selfies are probably my least favorite.

Family parody videos annoy the crap out of me too!

I have to say I love ALL of the men on New Girl...but not a single one is in an I-have-a-crush kind of way. Very platonic love.

I HATE the movie Wizard of Oz. Hate hate hate. Ugh.

I think it's cool to do a fun gender reveal thing, like post a fun picture or video of the reveal on Facebook, but having a whole party dedicated to it is over the top in my opinion.
