2014 Christmas Albums

It's December! Let the Christmas music play! I'm a Christmas music nut and have already been listening to it for quite a while, but I think it's finally officially ok to talk about it. I have a huge collection of holiday jams, but always look forward to adding more each year. I bought four albums this year and love them all!

Seth MacFarlane made a 100% real life holiday album. When I listened to Holiday For Swing the first time, I kept waiting for the jokes to reveal themselves, but he's totally serious and it's pretty good. He has a great voice, he's backed by an orchestra, and duets with Norah Jones and Sarah Bareillis. This album filled with holiday classics and a few lesser known songs. My favorite songs are Let It Snow, I'll Be Home For Christmas, Snow, and Warm in December

I've been a fan of Idina Menzel since I saw the musical Rent ten years ago and listened to the original cast soundtrack on repeat for months. More people fell in love with her during her run in Wicked, but she's become a household name thanks to Disney's Frozen. It's over a year later and everyone's still singing Let It Go. It made sense that she release a holiday album. I like it, I just sometimes feel like she's shouting at me. It's not really an album you can have on in the background while reading a book by the fire. My favorite songs are Do You Hear What I Hear, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, All I Want For Christmas Is You, and Holly Jolly Christmas.

I am still so amazed every time I hear a new Pentatonix music. I cannot believe there are no instruments in there! This Christmas album has a lot of traditional holiday songs, some fun medleys, and a few winter themed tracks, like White Winter Hymnal and Let It Go. Every songs is upbeat and fun. My favorite songs are Hark! The Herald Angels Sing, Sleigh Ride, Winter Wonderland/Don't Worry Be Happy, and Santa Claus is Coming to Town.

Hootie Daruis Rucker made a Christmas album and it's really good. It's got some standard Christmas tunes, a few originals, a duet with Sheryl Crow, and You're A Mean One Mr. Grinch even features his kids! Every song has a little of his southern twang. My favorite songs are I'll Be Home For Christmas, O Come, All Ye Faithful, Please Come Home For Christmas, and White Christmas.

What are you listening to this holiday season?

I just put all of my Christmas music onto my iPhone. I have over 100 songs. Tony thinks it's insane. I love adding stuff every year.

I assumed the Seth one was funny. I am not into Family Guy at all, but really like him in interviews. I need to give this a listen.

Kelly Clarkson's Christmas album is still one of my favorites. I keep going back to it in the car.

Oh, and I've been listening to Idina's as well. I like it, but yes, she is shouty.

I love Idina's album.

I didn't know Seth MacFarlane had a Christmas album. I'm going to look for it. I'm not a huge fan of his, but he DOES have a great voice. As does Darius Rucker!
