I Love The 2000s

I've been in love with VH1's I Love The... series since it began in 2002. My BFF and I would order in and watch the episodes every night, as they aired, because that's what you had to do in the early 2000s. I think it's where my love of comedians started. Michael Ian Black, Rachael Harris, Joel Stein, Bil Dwyer, The Modern Humorist (John Aboud and Michael Colton), and Mo Rocca were some of my favorites, and I developed a MAJOR crush on Hal Sparks, which I still have. We watched them all: I Love The 70s, '70s: Volume 2, '80s, '80s Strikes Back, '80s 3D, '90s, '90s Part Deux, Holidays, Toys, and New Millennium. Last week VH1 aired the latest series, I Love The 2000s. I wasn't sure how good it would be because the 2000s don't seem that long ago, but it was great. Here's a little rundown of the topics they covered with a few notes I took while binge-watching.

2000

Almost Famous, Trading Spaces (I forgot all about this show! I remember watching it in the middle of the day in college), Santana & Rob Thomas's Smooth, The Perfect Storm (I've never seen this movie!), speed dating, Charlie's Angels, text messaging (remember T9? It was so hard! I don't think I really texted anyone until like 2004), American Psycho, Blink 182's All the Small Things (I could write about Blink for days. They were my all-time favorite), Jared Fogle, and Cheaters.

2001

Bridget Jones's Diary, Mariah Carey on TRL, Afroman's Because I Got High, Listerine Pocketpaks (the first time someone handed me one I thought it was acid and I refused it. It didn't help that he did drugs all the time and refused to show me the package!), Legally Blonde, Eve & Gwen Stefani's Let Me Blow Ya Mind, Drew Barrymore and Tom Green, Harry Potter, Crossing Over with John Edward, Shoe-bomber of Flight 63, and Donnie Darko (What a good, weird, creepy movie. It's also where my love for Jake began).

2002

Blue Crush, "Axis of Evil" (it wasn't even an axis, GWB said the stupidest things), Serena Williams, Nelly's Hot in Herre, ringtones, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez (I miss them together so much! RIP OG Bennifer), Satellite radio, 8 Mile, The Wire (I STILL need to watch this show!), Juicy Couture, Poker (we watched all the poker shows and played poker as a family at every holiday, until my sister married a real poker player and he ruined it because he took it all too seriously), Verizon's "Can You Hear Me Now?" ad, Missy Elliott's Work It, and Jimmy Eat World's The Middle (they were my favorite in college).

2003

Star Wars Kid, R. Kelly's Ignition (I still love this song and R. Kelly still creeps me out), Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher, Queer Eye for the Straight Guy (I forgot all about this show! So fun), Paris Hilton, Freedom Fries (Americans are so stupid. Fries are from Belguim), t.A.T.u.'s All the Things She Said, Da Ali G Show, Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica (I always felt so bad for Nick, Jessica is a doozy!), The White Stripes' Seven Nation Army, Kill Bill Vol. 1, and the blackout in the northeast.

2004

White Chicks, Pimp My Ride, The Dean Scream (I forgot about this! Hilarious), Saw, Desperate Housewives, designer dogs, The Notebook, Plastic surgery shows: The Swan and I Want a Famous Face (so disturbing), Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle, Livestrong wristbands (I obviously had one and now hate Lance Armstrong), Napoleon Dynamite, Entourage (such a guilty pleasure show. Where's that movie?), The final episode of Friends, and Mean Girls.

2005

Brokeback Mountain, Kelly Clarkson's Since U Been Gone (I still sing scream this at the top of my lungs), R. Kelly's Trapped in the Closet, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, How I Met Your Mother (it was so cute and funny...for a few seasons), bluetooth, The Polar Express, Howie Day's Collide (SO. GOOD.), Terrell Owens, The Lonely Island's Lazy Sunday (I still love and quote it), Ann Coulter, Weezer's Beverly Hills, Renee Zellweger and Kenny Chesney's marriage, parkour, Mad Money, and King Kong.

2006

Flavor of Love, Wii, Tyra Banks, Pluto is no longer a planet (I told Nolan about this a few months ago. His mind was blown), Nelly Furtado & Timbaland's Promiscuos, Steve Irwin (RIP), The Da Vinci Code, Hannah Montana, James Frey's A Million Little Pieces (I loved that book, I don't care if it wasn't true), The Devil Wears Prada, Paul McCartney and Heather Mills divorce, High School Musical (way back before I knew who Zac Efron was), and Snakes on a Plane.

2007

Rock of Love, Juno (I loved it when it came out, but recently watched it again and was kind of annoyed by it), Lil Mama's Lip Gloss, Andrew Meyer gets tazed, Yo Gabba Gabba (Nolan was afraid of this show), Google street view, Larry Craig's bathroom scandal, Gossip Girl, bacon craze, Barry Bonds/steroids, Hairspray (this is where I first noticed Zac!), Rock Band, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, and Paranormal Activity (I hadn't been that scared by a movie in a long time).

2008

Deal or No Deal, Slap Chop (I bought one and I still use it!), Twilight, 2008 Summer Olympics (Michael Phelps!!!), Facebook, Barack Obama, M.I.A.'s Paper Planes, Breaking Bad, Friday Night Lights (another show I still need to watch), Lindsay Lohan and Samantha Ronson, Rickrolling (my sister Rickrolled me a few months ago. It never gets old), The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Katy Perry's I Kissed a Girl, The Dark Knight, Thomas Beatie/pregnant man, and Indiana Jones (I've never seen any Indiana Jones movies. Say what?!).

2009

Jersey Shore (I promised to never, ever watch it, caught an episode on accident, fell in love), Balloon boy hoax, Precious, Miracle on the Hudson River, Susan Boyle, Kesha's Tik Tok (I still love her), Taken, Shake Weight, Glee (back when it was good), Octomom, Lady Gaga (back when she was good), Inauguration of Barack Obama, Tiger Woods cheats on his wife, Miley Cyrus's Party in the USA (still  good), David after Dentist, and Avatar (I still haven't seen it. It just doesn't interest me in the least).

What a blast!
What do you remember from the 2000s?

my favorite was definitely Jessica Simpson!

All that stuff seems like so long ago, but it couldn't be because 1994 was only 10 years ago.
