2014 Met Gala

The Metropolitan Museum Costume Institute Gala was held last night. The theme was "Charles James: Beyond Fashion." That's a lot different than 2013's "PUNK: Chaos to Couture" and 2012's "Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations." And that's exactly what Anna Wintour wanted. She has been very involved these past few years, and helped raise $40-million to renovate and expand the Costume Institute, which is now called the Anna Wintour Costume Center. To make the event more exclusive, Anna increased the price of the event from $10,000 to $25,000 per ticket and announced a luxurious dress code: white tie and decorations. I pictured tails, top hats, and bow ties for the men, and gowns, corsages, and gloves on the women. As usual, I don't quite understand how some people interpret the theme. These were exactly the looks I had in mind:

The guys definitely got the memo. They looked hot in white tie!

Some of the couples were perfection!

But there are always clothes that are hideous and unflattering, even on the most beautiful people.

And then there are those who don't take risks. They're all gorgeous, but boring.

Take a look at my favorites:

Rihanna in Stella McCartney
It's a little casual, but so perfect.

Chrissy Teigan in Ralph Lauren
Maybe the side boob wasn't appropriate for the occasion, but I love her and this whole look.

Emmy Rossum in Carolina Herrera
I don't know why, but I really like the dress. I'm feeling floral lately.

Karlie Kloss in Oscar de le Renta
It's a bit dark and heavy, but I kept going back to it. I really do love it.

Leighton Meester in Emilio Pucci
Golden goddess! I love everything about her look.

Hayden Panettiere in Dennis Basso
It's simple, but so pretty. She looks happy and youthful. Love it.

Charlize Theron in Dior
Perfect, as usual.

Olivia Munn in Diane Von Furstenberg
Even though the dress is revealing, it looked classy, rather than shocking. She looked flawless.

What was your favorite look of the night?

I loved all the couples pics you shared. Even Kimye, I usually can't take them.

Did you see how Kim changed her accessories in the limo? I personally liked the first look better.

I know it's happening, but I still find it jarring to see Charlize Theron and Sean Penn together. Cannot compute. Also, WHY does Kirsten Dunst have the Death Star on her dress? Wait, was this held on 5/4? Cheeky little thing.

It can't be that exclusive if goddamned Kendall Jenner was there! Or Kylie. One of those tacky ones, I don't know the difference!

Liu Wen!!!!! Literally took my breath away.

I have 3 of your best dressed on my best dressed list. I'm working on the posts now.

I love NPH and his hubby, but they look stupid. What the hell is Kate Upton wearing? I hate Shailene's look, but it works for her because she's such a hippie.

Oh, I totally agree with everyone on your looks great but boring list. Mine's very similar.

I would LOVE to get to go to an event where I could wear dresses like these- so fun and fancy!

Some of the dresses looked ugly to me but there were some pretty ones as well

I'm so glad you did this post ... I really wanted to but just could not find the time.

I loved these looks: Sukie Waterhouse, Hailee Steinfeld, Rihanna and Stella Tennant.
Out of the couples my favourites were Victoria & David and Blake & Ryan
