Happy 10th, Mean Girls

Mean Girls came out April 30, 2004, which means it'll be ten years old next week. That's insanity to me. It launched the careers of Lindsay Lohan, Amanda Seyfried, and Rachel McAdams (and none for Gretchen Wieners). It has become a cult classic and even has quote-alongs in England. I wanna go! I fell in love with it instantly and still quote to this day. I don't really know anyone who doesn't like it.

Lindsay Lohan was cast as Regina, but Paramount execs decided she shouldn't play the villain because of her new, huge fan base following Freaky Friday. Amanda Seyfried and Rachel McAdams auditioned for Cady. Ashley Tisdale auditioned for Karen. Lacey Chabert was the first and only choice for the role of Gretchen.

Tina Fey confessed that she gave Jonathan Bennett the part of Aaron Samuels because he looked like a young Jimmy Fallon.

Janis is named after Janis Ian, the first musical guest on SNL. Cady is named after Elizabeth Cady Stanton, an 18th century pioneer in the American Women’s Rights Movement. Girl Power!

Tina Fey named and based other characters after those in her life. Mrs. Norbury was named after an old German teacher, Damien was based on an old friend (who is currently a writer for TV Guide), and Glen Coco is also one of her real-life friends.

The song Cady “actually recognizes” at the school dance is by Samantha Ronson. Four years later Lindsay and Samantha dated for a few years.

There is a seven year age difference between Rachel McAdams and Amy Poehler, who plays her mom. There is an eight year age difference between Rachel McAdams and Lindsay Lohan, though they are supposed to be the same age in the movie.

Amy Poehler coached and choreographed Rajiv Surendra for his talent show rap scene. That makes sense. Amy is an awesome rapper.

We all know what happened to Lindsay Lohan, don't we? She's had many personal and legal troubles, but after five stints in jail and six stints in rehab, she seems to finally be on the right track. After Mean Girls, she starred in Herbie, Just My Luck, Bobby, Georgia Rule, Liz & Dick, and The Canyons. She only has one movie on the horizon. Inconceivable is in pre-production and is very hush-hush. I'm rooting for you, girl.

Rachel McAdams went on to star in a ton of movies, most notably, The Notebook. She also dated Ryan Gosling for two years, so she wins. She also appeared in Wedding Crashers, The Family Stone, Sherlock Holmes, The Vow, and About Time. Her next  movies are Everything Will Be Fine with James Franco and an untitled Cameron Crowe movie with Emma Stone, Bradley Cooper, Bill Murray, Alec Baldwin, and John Krasinski.

Amanda Seyfried, who had the smallest part in Mean Girls, is probably the biggest success story out of the cast. She appeared in Veronica Mars and Big Love on TV and starred in a ton of movies, including Mamma Mia!, Dear John, Red Riding Hood, In Time, Les Miserables, and Lovelace. Her upcoming projects include A Million Ways to Die in the West (with Seth Macfarlane and Charlize Theron), While We're Young (with Naomi Watts, Adam Driver, and Ben Stiller), Fathers and Daughters (with Aaron Paul, Russell Crowe, and Diane Kruger), He's F***ing Perfect (with Rebel Wilson), and Ted 2 (with Mark Wahlberg).

Lacey Chabert was a child star who got her big break on Party of Five. She did some TV movies and guest appearances before making a comeback in Mean Girls. Since then she's done a ton of voice work and has been in independent movies, but not the good kind. She's currently working on two made-for-TV movies, The Christmas Tree Farm and Living The Dream.

Lizzy Caplan is doing pretty well for herself. She went on to appear in tons of failed TV shows before getting roles on True Blood, Party Down, New Girl, and now Showtime's Masters of Sex. She's also been in a few movies: Cloverfield, Bachelorrette and the upcoming, The Interview with James Franco and Seth Rogan. She also dated Matthew Perry from 2006 to 2012, so maybe she wins?

Daniel Franzese has had small roles in a ton of small movies (War of the Worlds and On The Inside), guest spots on TV shows (The Comeback, Burn Notice, Party Down), and stars in the web series Electric City.

After Mean Girls, Jonathan Bennett appeared in Cheaper by the Dozen 2, Lovewrecked, and National Lampoon's Van Wilder: Freshman Year. He also had small guest roles on Veronica Mars and Smallville. His upcoming movies include Mining for Ruby with Billy Zane and Mischa Barton and Author's Anonymous with Kaley Cuoco. He's also a spin instructor at LA's Flywheel.

Rajiv Surendra appeared in one short film following Mean Girls and is now a model and calligrapher.Yes, calligrapher. Check out his blog.

Tina Fey wrote and starred in Mean Girls while part of the cast of SNL. She went on to write and star in 30 Rock and appeared in Baby Mama, Date Night, Admission, and Muppets Most Wanted. She is currently writing and producing two TV shows: Tooken starring Ellie Kemper and Cabot College starring Margaret Cho and Fortune Feimster. She is also developing a Broadway musical based on Mean Girls.

Amy Poehler was also a cast member of SNL at the time she filmed Mean Girls. Since then she appeared in movies like Blades of Glory, Baby Mama, and A.C.O.D., and is the star of Parks and Recreation. Her upcoming movie They Came Together with Paul Rudd and Cobie Smulders is a romantic comedy that makes fun of romantic comedies.

Ok, bye. Gotta go watch Mean Girls now!
(Which has recently been added to Netflix, by the way.)

I was going to blog about this next week. Well, it's on my list.. who knows if I'll ever actually get to it. My list is growing, but I don't feel like blogging any of it.

There isn't a single negative thing I can say about this movie... Other than it being 10 years old makes me feel old. I promise to be a "cool mom, not a regular mom" when my time comes ;)

I love everything about it. ALL OF IT. I just hate that poor Lindsay has had such a time. She really really should have clung to Amy and Tina and listened to all they could have given her wisdom about because these women are LEGIT!

I totally forgot that Mean Girls basically put Tina Fey on the map. I mean, people knew who she was, but it wasn't until Mean Girls that she became super popular.

I have a girl crush on Rachel McAdams.

I hope good things for Lindsay Lohan.

Haha Aaron Samuels (he doesn't have a real name in my world) used to live in my hood. I'd see him at my Trader Joes's often and was in an elevator with him once at a shopping center.

I love me some Rachel McAdams. I still wish her and Ryan would get back together. But you forgot her BEST movie - The Hot Chick! Lol I'm totally serious too...

For some reason I don't like Amanda. I hate watching anything she's in bc she just bothers me.

Last summer Kate, Kathrin, and I saw this movie in a park. People are crazy fans. I thought I was. They literally dressed like the characters and recited the words.

Fun post!!
