Pharrell Williams

I think I was late to the Pharrell Williams party. I didn't know anything about him until 2001 and only thought of him as the singer of N.E.R.D. Lap Dance and Rock Star from the album In Search Of are still some of my favorite songs ever.

I also LOVE She Wants To Move from 2003's album Fly Or Die.

I've liked a few other N.E.R.D. songs here and there, but nothing really compared to those ones for me. Back then, I had no idea he was part of The Neptunes, who have written and produced a zillion hits. Here are some of my favorites: Rump Shaker (Wreckx N' Effect), Right Here (SWV), Shake Ya Ass (Mystikal), The Call (Backstreet Boys), I Just Wanna Love You (Jay-Z), I'm A Slave 4 U (Britney Spears), Girlfriend ('N Sync), Beautiful (Snoop Dogg), Hollaback Girl (Gwen Stefani), Rock Your Body (Justin Timberlake), Milkshake (Kelis).

In addition to his work with The Neptunes, Pharrell has been a featured vocalist on forty songs, including two of the best songs of 2013.

He went solo in 2006 and his first single was Can I have It Like That featuring Gwen Stefani. I loved it instantly, but nothing else really spoke to me from that album. I don't know if it was even very popular.

But he's back with another solo album, eight years later. G I R L, came out Monday and I've been listening to it nonstop. Milo is obsessed with the song and video for Happy and we've watched it at least 300 times in the past month.

I really like the entire album. It's fun, there are lots of horns, strings and good beats, and it has a '70s/Off The Wall Michael Jackson vibe. Some of the songs are too busy, with the music louder than the vocals though. Is that just me? Am I that old? I don't understand this trend lately! But I love his voice and vision and really, he can't do anything wrong in my book. My favorite songs are Happy, Come Get It Bae (featuring Miley Cyrus), Gust of Wind (featuring Daft Punk), Lost Queen and It Girl

He's just so cute!

I had no idea he did all of this either. I like him. I have to admit though that I don't like that big hat he wears.

Um...you think you were late to the party because you didn't know about him until 2001? I didn't know about him until the Grammys this past year...

"She wants to move" was my JAM back in the day! He has always been on and off my radar, but always, always delightful! I'm listening to his new album on RDIO at my desk and it is perfect afternoon work music! Totally waking me up :) I'm also a huge fan of "Lose yourself to dance" also on the latest Daft Punk album.

More music I lost in the iPod crash of 2013... Time to download some Pharrell jams!
