W Magazine - The Movie Issue

Six of the year's hottest movie stars grace the cover of W Magazine's "The Movie Issue" and their choices couldn't have been more spot on, but the photographs are just meh. It looks like they were taken in and around a dingy LA hotel with bad lighting/filters and no direction whatsoever.
Jennifer Lawrence
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, American Hustle
I like her vintage swimsuit and her hair, but her expression is so deer in headlights or super pissed off.

Oprah Winfrey
Lee Daniels' The Butler
This looks like a candid iPhone photo, but she does look pretty good.

Matthew McConaughey
Dallas Buyer's Club, The Wolf of Wall Street
Ugly suit, but it kinda fits his personality, right?

Lupita Nyong'o
12 Years a Slave
This is my favorite cover of the series. She's so gorgeous and happy and I love her dress.

Cate Blanchett
Blue Jasmine, The Turning, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug
Again, it looks like an iPhone pic taken while she was playing dress up. I don't get it. She's very pretty though.

Amy Adams
Man of Steel, American Hustle, Her
This has to be the one of the worst covers I've ever seen. Poor Amy.

W has also given best performance of the year titles to the following actors featured inside the issue: Lea Seydoux, Will Ferrell, Casey Affleck, Idris Elba, Brie Larson, James Franco, Emma Thompson, Michael B Jordan, Olivia Wilde, Bradley Cooper, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Chris Hemsworth, Michael Shannon, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Julie Delpy, Mickey Sumner, Penelope Cruz, Bruce Dern, Jared Leto, Greta Gerwig, Jonah Hill, Dane Dehaan, Scarlett Johansson, Ben Foster, Shailene Woodley, Amanda Seyfried, Joaquin Phoenix, and Jake Gyllenhaal.

I think they could have had a lot more fun with this issue. Maybe it would have been too expensive to give all these A-list actors a proper photo shoot, but at least splurge on the covers! This was fun. I think it's time to bring back my Magazine Roundup!

These photos are TERRIBLE! The lighting is awful; most of them look like they're sick! Ugh.

The cover looks very... 1970s-80's caught at a pool party-esque. I think Jennifer looks adorable, minus the "oh crap" look.

Matthew - he could wear a potato sack and I'd be on board (literally and figuratively)... I love that man. I need him to grow the hair back though - I need the tendrils.

Lupita is so gorgeous! Between her and the girl that plays Michonne on the Walking Dead - two of the most beautiful, natural, black women. They both have the same haircut too. Just lovely ladies.

Not loving Cate's cover, just because the boa washes her out. I think these are like throw back photos meant to look in the moment, like an iPhone pic.

Again, same with Amy - the walk of shame snap shot. They all look like they attended the same party and these were taking at different hours. Matthew definitely got the best of the bunch.

I am not digging the Joaquin Phoenix photo. Creepy. There's Matthew with another suit. (very Vegas or Usher inspired).

HA - Wil!

The actress in the red slip, her name escapes me right now but holy amazing. She's lovely! I want to be her when I grow up!

JGL - adorbs.

Scarlett - she's another potato sack person. She could wear almost anything... I hate her acting for the most part but she's a lovely looking woman.

Casey... my love for these Affleck boys is strong. Have you seen Out of the Furnace - holy amazing movie!!!

Chris & Amanda again be still my heart. I love them.

Oprah - what can I say that hasn't already been said, woman's got it made and she's a lovely woman.

These photos remind me of a photo book I own put out by US Weekly - I think when they used to do more photos like THIS in their magazine before it became just a tabloid. Tons of fun, whimsy actor and musician photos. Most are washed out and made to look like these - shot at a party or on a whim.

I sort of like it - I hate seeing all stars too done up.

I love the McConnaughey cover - it's pretty him. Blanchett's is good too.

The rest, eh.

I do like seeing them not airbrushed to the hilt surrounded by perfection.

Some of these photos are just so, so bad. Except Bradley Cooper. It's impossible to take a bad shot of Bradley Cooper.

Yuck. Not sure what they were going for but it's not working.

I agree that most of these are bad. Lupita looks radiant though.

I've seen a lot of people hating on Matthew McConaughey winning big at the Golden Globes. I LOVE HIM SO MUCH! I love his laid back, chill attitude. I also love that you can always see a little bit of him in every role. I think I shall blog about this!

Speaking of McConaughey, I watched the first episode of his new show with Woody Harrelson on HBO. It's really strange and dark, but I think it's going to be really good.

Don't kill me, but I love it! And Cate Blanchett looks like a crazed starlet and I couldn't love it more :) The iphone photo quality is odd, but kinda cool?
