It's Gonna Be A Happy New Year

(Ten thousand points if you can name that song and then we'll be best friends for life)

I know January is half over, but I never make any resolutions on New Year's Day. I give myself a two week grace period so I can still celebrate, eat, and spend money on and around my birthday. I'm back to business now though and I do have a few thing I hope to accomplish in 2014. Since writing things down helps you achieve your goals, I guess I better do it blog style.

Simplify. I say this all the time, but we seriously have have too much stuff. We went through the playroom after Christmas and donated a ton of toys. I also went through my closet and bathroom and gave clothes and makeup to a friend. Next up is my office, the family room, and our existing storage. Jacob built more shelves in the garage last week so at least we can store what we can't part with in a more organized way.

Health. Jacob is starting to train for two events this spring: an MMA fight (UGH!) and the hiking/snowboarding leg of a seven-sport relay. We've decided to hit the YMCA as a family at least two days a week and I hope to get there more often on my own. I also started Whole30 on Tuesday. It's overwhelming because it takes a lot of planning, preparation, and cooking, which I hate, and it's so strict - no sugar, dairy, gluten, grain, legumes or alcohol. But it's only 30 days. I can do this! I can't wait to reintroduce dairy though. Cheese is my favorite.

Reconnect. I feel like I hang out with the same five friends all year long. It's become a routine more than anything and I really want to see some of the people I've been missing lately. I sent out about ten texts on January 2 and made concrete plans with three friends. That's a start! I'm not placing the blame on my friends either. I'm just as bad, always saying, "We should totally hang out!" and then not doing anything about it.

Read. This is going to be a tough one. You all know how much I love TV! I didn't read a single page in December. I was tired and a little stressed and by the end of the day I didn't have any energy to open a book. I did pass my goodreads goal of 50/40 books in 2014 so I'm not beating myself up, but really, if I'm going to be sitting on my ass all night, it should be for reading. I can watch TV on the elliptical, right?

Give Back. I'm pretty great at monetary donations because it's easy, but I want to find a few local organizations and get involved. I'm obsessed with the library and was accepted into the volunteer program a few years ago, but I never got far because these kids of mine take up a lot of time. I need to start that up again. I'd also love to do something with the blood center. I donate blood as often as I can, but I really want to volunteer my time too.

Less social media. I've been thinking about deleting Facebook because it pisses me off more than it makes me happy lately. I've also thought about shutting down my blog. It's never been a passion of mine and I don't consider myself a writer. It's just a place where I can express my love of all the things in the world that don't really matter. During my two week break over the holidays I realized I didn't really miss it. I'd totally miss the people though, and the fact that I can write about dumb stuff and no one judges me...to my face. I guess I don't want to quit, I just need to find a good balance. I recently hid more people on Facebook, added more filters to Twitter, and edited the list of blogs I follow. I'm tired of getting online and getting off in a bad mood. To make the internet a better place, please read my dear friend Tiffany's (un)Official Social Media Guide.

Here's to 2014!

MMA?! Wow hardcore right there. I have to admit I like fb. Yes, stupid ppl make me mad. Since I live so far from my family it's a great way to stay in contact.

My friend owns an MMA gym here. Go Jacob!

I love your list.

I recently unfollowed a lot of blogs that were not adding anything to my life.

Please don't quit - just do what you can when you can and when you feel inspired.

Facebook annoys me too - I only log on here and there when I'm bored. I've found that picking a select what is it like 20 people you really ONLY want to get updates from on your phone, helps. I only check to see what my best friend are posting, and not worry about the other old classmates and people that i truly don't talk to are spewing about online.

Whole30 I've heard is great. Hard, but great. I have a hard time giving up cheese too - it's the one thing I find I crave the MOST when I'm trying to eat right. Sweets is only a once a month thing if you get what I mean.

I am trying to DO MORE with LESS again this year. And I also want to take better care of myself. Health wise, etc.

I need to do this post I just haven't gotten around to it.

Happy new year!!!

These are some great resolutions. Except the thought of you shutting down your blog. I would seriously miss you.

I got way over social media myself! I just added twitter only bc I'm obsessed with reading what everyone has to say about the bachelor. I hate facebook, deleted mine. But I love me some IG!!

Ah, don't stop blogging! No, really, stop if you want to. We'll still talk, obviously.

I definitely blog less and put less into it. If I want to blog about something I like, I will. I have grown tired of blogging just to blog.

The red carpet shit will probably keep going until I die even if no one reads it. Can't stop. Won't stop.

Your headline is from a song in "RENT," but I can't, for the life of me, figure out the title right now. :)

Good luck on the Whole30. I'm tempted, but I'm not sure I can give up so many things. :-/

AN MMA FIGHT?!? Holy crap. Let me know when it is happening so I can mentally hold your hand.

I couldn't live without cheese. I'm using it as my new reward (instead of beer, I guess?).

I am horrible, horrible about hanging out with people. I just am. I've come to terms with it. Because I'm a bitch. ha.

Thanks for the shoutout! Don't delete it, just take control of your feeds!
