Disneyland

Yeah, I know I just swore I was going to talk less about my kids, but I have to recap our trip to Disneyland, right? I'll make it quick. Like any parent, I was most worried about the plane ride, but the boys were amazing! I brought their iPods and headphones, tons of art activities, and snacks so they stayed busy. Milo was a little nervous, because he's just a cautious kid and afraid of the unknown, but as soon as we were in the sky, he was totally fine. Nolan only complained when he had to pee right after they told us to buckle up for landing. Ugh. Carrie (our friend that came with us) rushed him off the plane when we reached the gate and he made it to the bathroom just in time.

We started at California Adventure because we thought Cars Land would be less busy on a Thursday. I'm sure it was, but it was still a mad house. The boys loved every minute of it, especially meeting Lighting McQueen! Nolan was so excited, brave and patient. He really impressed me! He went on every single ride he was tall enough for, including The Tower of Terror. When we got off he said, "Mom, I don't want to do that ride again. It felt like my body was going to bust off my seat belt!" Well said. But after being freaked out, he was totally up for another ride. My kind of kid. Milo was a little nervous on every ride. Like I said, he has a fear of the unknown. About 30 seconds into it, he'd say he wanted to get off. I'd distract him with how cool it was and he'd be fine. There were never any tears or real worry and we didn't force him to do anything we thought would be too scary.

We went to Disneyland the second day and Milo started the morning with a huge meltdown. He didn't get enough sleep and I think he was overwhelmed with the crowd. He's so advanced for his age, sometimes I forget he's only two. I had to sit out a few rides to hang out with him, because I'm the mom. Lame. Nolan did awesome again, even on less sleep than usual. He was excited to go on Space Mountain, but hated it! We had never seen the Halloween overlay and didn't know it would be so scary. Poor kid. He said it was too loud and too fast. I think he would have enjoyed it if it was the regular ride, just a rocket going into space, but that ghost was creepy. Their favorite part of the day was hanging out in Toontown. We could have spent half the day there, but in order to see more of the park, I cut it to just one hour. Milo fell asleep on the train and woke up a total grump. We treated the boys to Mickey ice cream and they got to choose a toy at one of the thousands of gift shops, then we called it a day.

We got back to the hotel, ordered pizza for the kids, then Leeann (Join The Gossip) and Kathrin (Shop.School.Sleep.) picked up me and Carrie for a night out. We went to Huntington Beach for some Mexican food and margaritas, then wandered the streets a little and settled on Starbucks for coffee and more conversation. I love these two! I felt like I've known them forever. Thanks for showing me around, girls!

It was a great, quick trip. The weather was perfect for us (foggy and chilly in the morning, sunny and mid-70s by the afternoon). It was a little tougher at the parks with Milo than I imagined it would be, but he did pretty well for a toddler. And I'm so happy to know that they are good travelers. The next time we go, we're making it a 4-day trip. We got the 2-day park tickets because we initially planned on leaving Milo at home and didn't want to be away from him for so long. But two days wasn't enough time to see everything with the kids in tow. I think we'll go back when Milo is 6 and Nolan is 8. Those are good ages and heights. Successful first family vacation!

It seems like you had a great time, minus the melt downs, but they're kids, it's going to happen but I'm glad you were able to take it all in stride :)
