Man Up!

I'm a huge fan of Ross Mathews, which started when he was just "Ross the Intern" on The Tonight Show. His unapologetic bubbly personality was so endearing and hilarious. I've also loved watching him on the Chelsea Lately round table. He is very funny and adorable, but really shines when he sits in for Chelsea Handler and conducts guest interviews. Have you seen his interview with Mark-Paul Gosselaar? Equal parts awesome and awkward and Mark-Paul just went with it. Ross just makes everyone feel so comfortable and lighthearted. So yeah, I was pretty excited to read his book, Man Up!: Tales of My Delusional Self-Confidence.

I could definitely hear his voice as I was reading, which made it that much more entertaining. He grew up outside of Seattle so it was fun to read about local spots like Royal Fork Buffet, Food Pavilion, and Wild Waves, the water park where every middle school in the state went on field trips. He discusses his relationship with his parents, his small town upbringing, dating girls, going off to college, and his unbelievably easy dream come true transition to TV personality. I related to all of his '80s and '90s references, especially because the things he loved were also some of my favorites: Saved by the Bell, Supermarket Sweep, and Don't Tell Mom The Babysitter's Dead to name a few. Coming from a farm town in Washington to getting his own show on E! (Hello Ross starts this fall) is a pretty great story. He's so positive and uplifting, how can you not love him?

I received this book from NetGalley for review purposes.
