Music Monday - Baz Luhrmann

My Mother's Day was pretty great. Nolan and I ran The Color Run. Then I met my mom and sister at the movies for The Great Gatsby. Afterwards, I came home to breakfast for dinner...my favorite! I couldn't be happier to be the mom of Nolan and Milo and I have the best partner ever in Jacob. I feel very lucky.

Ok, enough of that, let's get to the important part. Gatsby! First, I gotta say that I've never really liked the book. I didn't read it in high school, could that be why? I read it about five years ago when I was pregnant with Nolan. Maybe that's why. Regardless, it's not one of my favorite books out there. But I L-O-V-E Baz Luhrmann and everything he does. Romeo + Juliet and Moulin Rouge are two of my favorite movies of all time. At least three times a year I have a Baz double feature and put on those DVDs. So I just knew I'd love  the cinematic eye candy of The Great Gatsby. Leo and Carey didn't hurt either. They are also some of my favorites. It was a little slow in some parts, but I still loved it. I'll have to have triple features now.

The other amazing thing about Baz is the music from his movies. Romeo + Juliet and Moulin Rouge are also two of my favorite soundtracks, and remind me so much of high school and college, respectively. And Gatsby is amazing as well. It was hard to narrow down, but I chose five songs from each soundtrack that I'm totally in love with.

You and Me Song by Various Artists on Grooveshark I have a million things to do, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to watch my Baz double feature tonight.

I have read the book many times - in HS, college, after. The movie is slow because the book is slow. People are bitching about that all over the web and I'm like hello the book is slow and you're lauding that!

I'm also not sure why people are like Oh My God they made it a movie. Hello? Robert Redford as Gatsby, anyone?

I loved it, and I thought the music was a perfect accompaniment to the 1920s.

I LOVE BAZ LUHRMANN.

I loved The Great Gatsby. I thought it was beautiful and really captured so much of the emotion and longing and desperation from all of the major characters.

And the soundtrack was fantastic.

I think this needs to be added to the Red Curtain Trilogy. I guess that would make it the Red Curtain Anthology?

I've never read the book. Kathrin is always bugging me to since it's one of her favs. I listened to clips of the music today and it was so-so. I need to listen again, to the full songs. Surprisingly I liked the Lana Del Rey (Ray?) song.
