World Water Day

Today is World Water Day! It's an international awareness day, established 20 years ago by the U.N. to focus on the importance of fresh water around the world.

Clean water is my favorite cause to contribute to. It's such a simple thing, but over a billion people go without safe water. More people die from dirty water than all forms of violence, INCLUDING war, and 90% of those deaths are children under five years old. And did you know that the global need for water will exceed the supply by 40% in 2030? Yikes! There are many organizations dedicated to this cause, but my favorite has always been charity: water. On World Water Day in 2012, I pledged to give up my birthday for clean water. My goal was to raise $700 and my family, friends, and fellow bloggers totally came through for me!

Thank you so much for your contributions! I was seriously blown away by the support, especially from the blog world. One of my IRL friends just pledged to give up her next birthday for clean water. So awesome! I'm not saying everyone should do this, but I do urge you to look into the issue just a little bit today.

Wow that is great, sometimes those of us who live in countries where we have clean drinking water take it for granted and forget that there are those who do not have it.....
