Red Hot Chili Peppers Concert

In 7th grade, one of my favorite songs was Under The Bridge. My dad and uncle constantly made fun of me for listening to Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magic all the time. But hey, it was one of the first five CDs I ever owned! I pretty much forgot about the Chili Peppers until I met my 11th grade boyfriend. He was a serious fan with all their CDs, EPs and compilations, and was literally counting down the days for the release of their new album, One Hot Minute. I wasn't a huge fan, but since we spent every moment together, I soon knew every word to every song. It became one of my favorite albums and I still love it today. It was more rock and a little darker than their previous rap/funk sound. Plus, I had (and kinda still do have) a huge crush on  Dave Navarro. I know, I know.

So when my boyfriend got us tickets to see them in concert, I was so excited! Especially because it was my first concert that I didn't attend with my parents. But a few days before the show, he stayed home sick from school. At lunch, I had a friend call the school, pretending to be my dad, and said I had to leave early for a doctor appointment. I left school and hung out with him the rest of the day. I thought I was in the clear, but the school called my dad the following day to let them know that I forgot to bring a note in with me that morning (it was my first time skipping school, I didn’t know the protocol). He told them he didn’t know about my appointment, and that my mom probably picked me up. When the school called my mom to verify, I was busted. My parents weren't even that mad about me skipping school, but pissed off that I made them look like idiots. Oops. So I was grounded for a week, which meant I couldn't go to the show that weekend. My boyfriend took his best friend. They said it was the best concert they'd ever been to and couldn’t stop talking about it for days. Boo.

After that tour, Dave Navarro was fired from the band and their sound changed drastically. I heard some songs on the radio through college, but never paid attention to their albums. Earlier this year I saw that they were touring again and thought I'd give it a shot. My brother wanted to go, but he's still working in San Diego. My brother-in-law wanted to go, but he has a newborn now. I didn't have any other friends that wanted to see them. Are there any fans anymore? Jacob reluctantly said he'd go if I absolutely couldn't find anyone else. Luckily, another friend stepped up to the plate. He isn't exactly a fan, but like me, he's always down to see live music.

They didn't play a single song from One Hot Minute. Apparently they aren't fans of their Dave Navarro influenced album and haven't played those songs since the initial tour. Boo! I knew less than half of the songs, but it wasn't a bad show. Just very mellow and pretty funky. There was a lot of jamming going on, which bores me. Get to the songs already! But they sounded really good, it was a sold out show, and the fans engulfed in the giant pot cloud seemed to be having a great time. (By the way, marijuana isn't legal here until December 6th.)

Anthony Kiedis has a pretty great body, especially for a 50 year old!

I don't know what was up with Flea and Anthony's one short pant leg/long sock deal. BFFs?

The drummer, Chad Smith, has always reminded me of Will Ferrell. Take a look at the video. I'm a HUGE fan of drum solos, but I couldn't take it seriously because it just looked like a crazy character in an SNL sketch.

I'm glad I got to see them (16 years later!), but probably wouldn’t do it again.
Any RHCP fans out there?

I'm a fan...of the older music...not as big a fan to know every song or album (we have discussed my lack of music knowledge already haha) but I did like them better with Dave Navarro

Hell yes he still has a great body! haha. I've been a big fan of since Under the Bridge too! Saddest part is I have NEVER seen them live! It seems like there's always something going on when they're here, I missed them in September too. At least you can say you them and that's pretty awesome! :)

I did not even know that Dave Navarro was ever in the band...lol. Remember when he married Carmen Electra? And they had a MTV show? Those were the days...

They were way better with Dave Navarro.

But I still probably wouldn't go see them in concert. There are a lot of other shows I'd rather spend money on.

Lol I used to hate the Chili Peppers, at Nirvana, and Pearl Jam, and all of the popular alternative music that I should have liked. HOWEVER the Chili Peppers have grown on me over the years. I guess I wasn't a fan of Dave Navarro either lol!

Glad you finally got to see them :)

Dave Navarro is hot in a very weird way. My fav was always Rollercoaster of Love. I heard it for the first time in the BEavis and Butthead movie.

LOVE me some Peppers. I was obsessed with Blood Sugar Sex Majik too! SO much. Totally reminds me of HS summers.

I think that One Hot Minute is a great album. Not my favorite and I'm not a fan of Dave at all but I did enjoy the album. It was fun.

I need to see them in concert!

I love me some RHCP and Anthony Kiedis. I've always wanted to see them in concert, but never have. And yes, Chad looks just like Will!
