I Can Taste Christmas

Thanksgiving is over and we can finally get down to this Christmas business. We put up our tree and decorated the house this weekend. Nolan insisted on putting candy canes on the tree. I'm cool with that. I think I'm one of very few adults who still loves them. Why do people grow out of this delicious treat? I actually bought a box on November 1st this year and have been secretly munching on them all month. For me it’s a taste of nostalgia and of anticipation. The weirdest thing is, I'm not a big fan of peppermint.

Here are some of my other favorite tastes of the Christmas season.

Almond Roca. I know it’s available year round (especially here, because Brown & Haley is half an hour away), but my parents only bought it during the holidays. It was the one candy we couldn’t wait to eat straight from our stockings on Christmas morning.

Apple Cider. Hot or sparkling, I love both. Martinelli’s sparkling cider was always such a fun treat for us as kids. And I prefer hot spiced cider to hot cocoa to warm me up on a cold winter night.

Satsumas. I live for these little mandarin oranges. We seriously buy a box a week and eat them all day long for as long as they carry them at the store. Up here it’s usually just mid-November to mid-January. They are sweet, juicy, and easy to peel. Plus all that vitamin C is so good for you during the cold and flu season!

Peppermint Nougats. These minty Christmas tree taffy things always remind me of my grandma. They are so smooth and creamy.

What food or beverage gets you excited for the holidays?

I freaking love the peppermint nougats. They remind me of my childhood and I buy them every year.

Nothing makes me happier than Starbuck's peppermint mochas. And Williams-Sonoma's peppermint bark. But my FAVORITE is Friendly's peppermint stick ice cream. Yummm...

I wasn't a big peppermint fan until recently, but candy canes have always been a Christmas symbol for me. I still love them!

I still like candy canes. And I'm not a big peppermint fan either. Logan had his first one yesterday. It was a mini and he inhaled it.

Um. Brown and Haley is only a 1/2 hour away from you??
So...do they do tours? With free Almond Roca?? I want that.

Anyway. Back to the candy canes. This post gives me new appreciation for them! Pretty!

I will eat candy canes only during the holidays. Other than that I'm not big on peppermint. Chic-Fil-A has a peppermint chocolate chip shake, I tried it. Not a fan. My son LOVES the nougats!

Peppermint Mocha from Starbucks & hot chocolate

There's more, but I can't think of anything right now.

I don't like most peppermint things, but I do love candy canes! Now I need some. Covered in chocolate. YUM.

Almond roca? Never heard of it. And those little orange things? Never heard of them either! I dislike candy canes and peppermint unless it is covered by chocolate!

I always forget I like candy canes until I decide to have one like the day AFTER Christmas. I think I'll start in on them a little earlier this year.
