Foreigner and Heart

I Wanna Know What Love Is and Waiting For A Girl Like You are two of my favorite '80s songs ever. So when I found out Foreigner was coming to my favorite little amphitheater, I knew I had to go. My friend and I got there as the opening cover band played '80s rock songs, we grabbed some food and drinks and settled into our seats just in time for Foreigner to begin. When the singer climbed up the stage scaffolding during the first song, we knew we were in for a fun night!

I honestly don’t think I have ever seen a picture or video of the band, but the lead singer looked a lot younger than the rest of the dudes on stage, so I googled it and found out the band has been through 36 members. 36!? In fact, Mick Jones is the only member that has been there since day one, when he founded the band in 1976. And guess what? He wasn’t even there. Someone was filling in for him. So do we call this a tribute band? Regardless, it was a good time. They sounded incredible, like listening to an album. The only difference was the singer. Kelly Hansen has been with Foreigner since 2005, but had previously been in the heavy metal hair band Hurricane. He had an amazing voice, it was a lot richer than Lou Gramm’s voice, but not quite as high. Still, awesome show. I was so surprised that I knew all but three songs of their set list. Here are my favorites:

On Monday night, my sister, friend and I stopped by the state fair to see Heart. Let’s talk about the fair first. I love this little tradition of ours. We get to see an awesome '80s band (we’ve previously seen Hall & Oates and Chicago) and it’s an excuse to eat really bad good fair food. Check out these fried pickles. I mentioned that the first time I’ve had them was in Branson this summer. They just aren’t that big of a deal in Seattle. Unfortunately. And even when we do attempt it, we get it wrong. I'm no expert, but aren’t they supposed to be sliced, and like, fried more? They were still delicious and I really wanted to go back for seconds, but I had to make room for other goodies.

fried pickles, a brick of curly fries, grape shaved ice

After stuffing our faces, it was time for the concert. Heart was amazing! I kinda can't get over it. These Seattle sisters are 58 and 62, but run around on stage like they're 25. Ann's voice is so pure and pretty, but she can scream and wail with the best rockers out there. They played quite a few new songs, but almost all the classic hits too and the whole set was so entertaining.

I got in trouble for recording, so I didn't get my favorite song (Alone) but their rendition was AWESOME. Ann Wilson is such a freakin' rock star. I love her. I will see Heart every single time they tour now. Luckily, it's quite often.

We saw Foreigner earlier this year in Georgia. We had SO much fun! They put on such a great show. I really had no idea how many hits they've had, but I knew every single song.

Looks like a ton of fun- the shows and the fair food :)

Yes, the pickles should be sliced. As a Missourian, I feel like an expert. :P

And I freaking LOVE Branson by the way!

OMG, Heart is so good live! I saw them open for Journey a few years ago and I was blown away as well! Oh, what rock stars those sisters are!

This is why we need to live closer - I would be going with you to every once of these concerts!!! You and I definitely have a thing for classic rock and 80s bands ;) So fun!!

You always see the best shows! I used to go to concerts all the time in my glory days. Mostly punk shows. But now I'm lucky to go once a year. It's hard with the little ones, John's schedule, and no family here. And surprisingly enough Hooters has some of the best fried pickles. My mouth is watering just thinking about them.

I see advertisements for concerts like this all the time and I never go. Why? I have no idea. I really need to start!
