Donate Blood

I started donating blood on September 12, 2001. My brother, sister and I got in line at our local blood center and waited for an hour to donate the day after the attacks. It was the least we could do. I donated a few times a year after that, but since having kids it hasn’t been as often. That’s why I put it on my Project 52 list. I wanted to force myself back into the habit. And it worked! I went in on Tuesday night for my fourth donation.

8. Donate blood four times.

Did you know that someone needs blood every two seconds? 37% of the US population is eligible to donate, but only 10% do and the blood supply hit a 15-year low this summer. All blood types are needed, but people with O negative are strongly encouraged to donate because it can be transfused to patients of all blood types and is often used in emergency situations. To spread the word, the American Red Cross teamed up with AMC’s The Walking Dead team for a Zombie Blood Drive. As part of the campaign, some celebrities were transformed into zombies by the makeup artists behind the show.

Crazy! If you are eligible and aren’t afraid of needles or blood, you should donate either through the Red Cross or your local blood center. It’s such a simple way to help out in a big way and you don’t have to spend any money! The pint of blood you donate can save up to three lives. I just relax in the chair, kid-free, and catch up on Twitter and Instagram. Easy. Also, you get cookies and juice.

Use Your Brains. Give Blood.

I really wish I wasn't scared of needles. I almost pass out every time I have to get my blood drawn. It's a lame excuse but it's the truth. Thanks for being so awesome and donating yours!

This is so cool! I'm a huge Walking Dead fan, nice to see them using their talents for a good cause.

I wish I could donate again. I used to do it fairly regularly, but I'm on medications now that prevent me from doing so. Lame.

Those pictures are awesome. Funny, though, how the men still look so much more like themselves than the women do...

Damnit lol! I totally wrote a post about this and have it scheduled for next week lol! I'm sorry, I didn't copy you! I've just been MIA!

I've never donated blood. I know I need to. In high school I didn't weigh enough, can I pretend that's still my reason? lol
