When I found out Aerosmith was coming to town a few months ago I asked a few people to go with me, and they all looked at me like I was crazy. Yeah, I know, they are super old, and I’m not necessarily a fan, but they’ve been around forever and have tons of hits that I have enjoyed throughout the years. I mostly love their stuff from the ‘90s. Remember when Alicia Silverstone was in all their videos?

Cryin', Amazing, Crazy

And then of course there’s the theme song from Armageddon. Vintage Ben Affleck? Swooooon.

I totally had this poster on my wall. When I was 19. Nerd Alert.

Finally when I asked my sister, I had a date. She saw the value in seeing a band that's been around for 40 years!

We got cheap seats and sat far away, but straight back from the stage in the 100 level, so they weren’t horrible. Cheap Trick opened, sounded pretty good, and I knew quite a few songs. Fun fact: they all live in the same neighborhood as my cousin in Illinois and sometimes play their little block parties. How cool!

Then Aerosmith took the stage. Steven Tyler’s voice was surprisingly great and sounded straight from an album. And the 64-year-old grandpa could move! He was all over the place; dancing, strutting, jumping, and tossing the microphone stand around. He had feathers in his hair, a crazy hat, over-sized sunglasses, a long coat, and scarves on the mic stand in pure Steven Tyler fashion. He also had a wind machine! Who does he think he is, BeyoncĂ©? It was kind of hilarious. It was also pretty hilarious to see the reaction of female fans. They seriously love him. Gross, but to each her own. Steven and Joe Perry looked like best friends forever, despite all of their public fighting. And the band sounded great too.

But I didn’t love the show. They really focused on songs from the ‘70s, plus a few brand new songs, and they went crazy with the solos. Just when you thought a song was going to end, there would be a ten minute (no exaggeration) drum or guitar solo. Then halfway through the concert Steven disappeared and Joe sang blues songs by himself. Weird. As I said above, I only really know the singles from the ’90s. We were kind of bored so I googled the set list and realized they’d only be playing three more songs that we knew: Sweet Emotion, Walk This Way and Dream On. Besides Walk This Way, I didn’t really care about the other songs. So...we left. We’re lame, I know. I read some reviews the next day and everyone said the encore was pretty awesome since Tyler came out on a smoking piano to play Dream On. It was a good show musically, but I think you really had to be a fan to enjoy the older stuff.

What do you think about Aerosmith?

I'm not a huge Aerosmith fan but back in the early days of Guitar Hero, I could ROCK their songs like nobody's business. hahaha. That stinks that they didn't play any 90s though, that's what I mostly know too! lol.

I love Aersomith, but would have been disappointed with the set list. I would have stayed for Dream On though. It's the best!

HOW DO YOU NOT CARE ABOUT DREAM ON?!?! Okay, now that that's out of the way ;-) He's only 64? Jesus he looks 74. Maybe that's why he needed a break in the middle. I am with you on the 90s stuff, it was my favorite!

Hahaha Beyonce! My mom loved Cheap Trick more and my dad liked Aerosmith more. They were wasted when I picked them up for the show...they made me make a stop at Jack in the Box and I found freaking chocolate shakes and Jumbo Jacks in my fridge days later lol.

Too bad there was no Johnny Depp sighting :(

I'm with you. Love 90s Aerosmith. The 70s version? Meh.

But I probably would have gone to the show anyone because, seriously. It's Aerosmith!
