No Doubt/Settle Down

I don’t think I’ve really expressed how much I love No Doubt here on the blog. I mean, I talk about Gwen a lot, who I adore, but I haven’t really declared my love for all of them. They are my favorite band of all time. If you made me choose between my beloved Britney and No Doubt, it’s always gonna be No Doubt. Gwen is just awesome. The guys are hilarious and so talented. I relate to every single song in some way. Their albums are the soundtrack to my life.

When I first saw the video for Just A Girl my junior year in high school I was a little annoyed by the obnoxious singer. I was busy listening to Alanis Morissette and Poe and the bands with female singers I loved were Hole, Garbage and The Cranberries. But the song grew on me and soon my dad bought Tragic Kingdom on tape. Yes, tape. We didn’t have CD players in our cars yet. After Spiderwebs came out I borrowed the tape from my dad and when I heard Don’t Speak, I never gave it back to him.

I was in college when Return of Saturn came out and although it wasn’t the most widely accepted album it’s one of my favorite albums of all time. Pick any song and I can tell you where I was in my life or who I felt like it was about. I met my BFF a few months before it came out and I think when we realized that we were both in love with No Doubt we knew we were meant to be friends forever.

Just a year and a half later, they released Rock Steady and it played at every one of my parties. I loved everything about it. It was such a good pop album and again, their songs fit right in with where I was in my life.

And then…nothing. Sure we got Boom Box with the cover It’s My Life and other unreleased tracks (some of those B sides are my favorite No Doubt songs. Check out Under Construction and You’re So Foxy). And a few years ago they put out another cover, Stand and Deliver. Gwen had two solo albums that were a lot of fun, but it wasn't the same. We haven’t had any real No Doubt music in almost eleven years.

Until now. They are back! Their album Push and Shove comes out in September and their first single Settle Down came out today!

I love it! It sounds like old No Doubt, with Jamaican and ska roots. I think it's such a great summer song and the chorus is my favorite part. The video is so fun, filled with nods to old videos and Gwen's classic dance moves. She is so frickin' pretty. I can't believe she's 42. I cannot wait two whole months for the album! I’ll listen to it on repeat for months. I’m even more anxious for them to tour again. I’ve seen No Doubt in concert four times, all with my BFF, so I don’t plan to miss this one with him. Since he lives in California, maybe I’ll go twice?!

I think I'll have a No Doubt-a-thon until the album comes out.

I love this post! No Doubt is definitely part of my life soundtrack. And Poe. Lol. Omg I wanted to be a super melodramatic female singer so badly!

So i just saw this last night, and found out that I am in fact still a big nerd for No Doubt. I'm not super wild about the song, but I do love that its so old school No Doubt sounding. It's not Gwen's more recent solo style. LOVE.
