Moonrise Kingdom/Wes Anderson

Jacob and I saw Moonrise Kingdom earlier this month and I loved every second of it. The movie was such a sweet look at first love. The setting in New England was picturesque. I want to live in the home of the Bishop family. Kara Hayward and Jared Raynor Gilman (who played Suzy and Sam) were perfection! They are super talented kids who will have a long career if they want it. And of course the adults (Edward Norton, Bill Murray, Kevin Costner, Frances McDormand, and Tilda Swinton) were all awesome, too. But Jason Schwartzman’s short appearance might have been my favorite part. Jacob and I laughed out loud the entire time.

I think Wes Anderson is a genius and absolutely love all seven of his movies.

He is easily one of my top three favorite writer/directors. (The others being Baz Luhrmann and Tim Burton). His wide angles, slow-motion shots, and take/double takes are so visually appealing to me. He uses bright, primary colors and calming classic rock music. His characters are flawed, his families aren’t traditional, and the original story lines contain the best dry humor ever. He continually casts the same actors in his movies. He met Owen Wilson in college and has used him in all but one movie. He also features Luke Wilson, Andrew Wilson, Jason Schwartzman (love), Bill Murray, Anjelica Huston, Willem Dafoe, Seymour Cassel, Kumar Pallana, Brian Tenenbaum, Stephen Dignan, and Eric Chase Anderson (his brother).

There’s a little bit of casting news about his next movie, The Grand Budapest Hotel. Johnny Depp and Owen Wilson have been confirmed to star in the Euro-based story about a man that has a personal medium. It’s also been rumored that Bill Murray, Edward Norton, Jude Law, Jeff Goldblum, Adrien Brody, Willem Dafoe and Angela Lansbury are being pursued. What a cast!

“I want to try not to repeat myself. But then I seem to do it continuously in my films. It's not something I make any effort to do. I just want to make films that are personal, but interesting to an audience. I feel I get criticized for style over substance, and for details that get in the way of the characters. But every decision I make is how to bring those characters forward.” - Wes Anderson

Hilarious

What do you think about Wes Anderson? I know a ton of people that love him,
but even more that think he’s a total weirdo and that his movies aren’t entertaining in the least.

I LOVE Wes Anderson! The only one of his movies I haven't seen is Bottle Rocket (I KNOW!). And I didn't fall in love with The Life Aquatic, but I feel like I get him and his movies are brilliant.
