'90s Accessories

As embarrassing (or totally awesome) as it is to admit, I spent my most formative years (11-21) in the '90s. I often look back at that time and cringe, but it is just so funny that I can't keep myself from talking about it! I wrote this post last year about '90s fashion. I posted my yearbook pictures here. I’ve shared with you some of my favorite music (here) and favorite childhood TV shows (here). And now I want to talk about the accessories. Because they. were. awesome.

Oh lord, didn't we love these? They were more of a bracelet than a hair accessory.
I actually know someone who still wears them. Awkward.

Claw Clips
We ditched the scrunchies for these fashion forward clips.
I have to admit, I still use them in the morning to pull my hair back while putting on makeup.
Butterfly Clips
And then came the mini clips. I had so many of these, along with baby barrettes.
They were an easy way to pull up just a little bit of hair.

Sun In
While "laying out" in the summer time we spritzed our hair with this lightening spray.
Since I have brown hair, I always got some beautiful orange streaks.

Elizabeth Arden Sunflowers
This was my signature scent in middle school.
My mom was allergic to it, so I had to keep it outside in the mailbox and spray myself on my way to school.

Gap Dream
This perfume came out in 1994 and it was my go-to scent through high school.
I think I still have a bottle.

Bath & Body Works
Our mall finally got this store in 1997 and I stocked up on every single scent!
My favorite was Cucumber Melon.

Cover Girl Compact
Everyone had one of these to powder their noses between classes.
I kinda miss the smell.

Hard Candy Nail Polish
This was the best ever. Shimmery, sparkly, dark, and pastel colors made just for teens.
I had so many bottles!

Rollerball Lip Gloss
We knew we were maturing when we swapped our chap stick for this sophisticated lip gloss.
They smelled (and tasted!) so good.

Body Glitter
This went everywhere. Eyes, lips, shoulders, cleavage, etc.
Even on places you didn't intend it to go.

Homemade Ball Chain Necklaces
I made one of these with mine and my boyfriend's initials.

Puka Shell Necklaces
I think I wore one of many of these, every single day when I was 18.
Looking back at pictures, it was like me and my friends were always at a Hawaiian party.

Plastic Gap Bags
Everyone carried PE clothes in Gap bags.
If you were really cool, you turned your bag inside out first. I wasn't that cool.

Jansport Backpacks
I got a new one every year in junior high and high school. Purple, red, navy, etc.
And my bestie and I would trade all the time. They were THE backpack.

Messenger Bags
No one used backpacks in college.
It was all about the Dickie's bag!
Passing Notes
Since we didn't have the technology to text, we wrote notes and passed them between classes.
I could fold these suckers twenty different ways.

Gel Pens
And you had to write and decorate those notes with gel pens!
Our teachers wouldn't let us use them in class though. Boo.

VTech Cordless Phone
Is there anyone who was a teen in the '90s that didn't have this phone?
I had purple, my sister had lime, and my BFF had teal.

During senior year, everyone started getting pagers. They weren't just for doctors and drug dealers anymore.
There were so many beeper codes, but the one I used most often was 143 (I love you). Awww.

Mobile Phones
This is exactly what my first cell phone looked like.
I got it when I was 18 for Christmas from my parents.

What a blast from the past. Do you remember this stuff?
Did I miss anything that was important to you in the '90s?

So much of this, yes yes yes.
I still know someone that wears scrunchies, she won't stop. It is awkward.
I still use a clip every morning to clip my hair back while applying makeup too. Samsies.
Sunflowers, how could I have forgotten about this stuff??! It was horrible.. but we loved it so much.. HAHA!
Gap Dream is still one of my favs, I have a small bottle in my purse currently. My daughter loves it too.
B&BW + Cover Girl are still tiny favs.
Nailpolish + Lip Gloss.. I feel so old since my daughter is currently crazy about this stuff!
BODY GLITTER!!! It was always EVERYWHERE! I still have a a thing of it that I gave to my daughter.
Notes, Bags, Pagers, Pens.. YES YES YES!!
My VTech cordless was lime. And my first cell was the Nokia with 'Snake'.. BHAHAHA!

This post had me laughing and thinking back about all of this "fun" stuff! I am the same age as you and totally rocked the Gap bag for PE clothes and the pager! (plus many of the others too!) My Jansport was purple :) haha!!! I also clicked over to the yearbook post and was rolling at all of those celebs! Ryan Seacrest, yikes! My looked so similar to yours with the hair and bangs! Fun post!!

OHMYLAWD! I remember all of this but the one that stands out it SunIn! I remember chasing my brother around spraying this in his hair. He had pretty dark hair and the sun in turned it a splotchy red/orange color! It was so funny!

I love this!! I was guilty of using butterfly clips, covering myself with body glitter, and wearing those letter necklaces. Sometimes I seriously wonder what I was thinking!

We're the same age, so obviously ALL of this hits home. My pager looked just like the one pictured. My phone looked like that, but with a longer antenna. I still have some of the notes we passed in high school. They're folded just like the ones pictured and various other ways. I had a Jansport backpack, of course. Sunflowers was my signature scent back then too. I used Sun In several times. It looked fantastic at first.. then it turned green. And OMG, body glitter! I preferred to put mine on cleavage, shoulders and navel. This post is seriously awesome!!!
