The Hunger Games

I gotta do it guys. I know everyone is talking about it, but I just have to throw in my two cents. The movie was awesome! I loved everything about it and every single cast member! Jennifer Lawrence was perfection. Liam Hemsworth was adorable, but there wasn’t enough of Gale to really decide. Josh Hutcherson as Peeta definitely surprised me. Team Peeta/Team Josh all the way! I loved Effie, Haymitch, Seneca, and Snow, but my favorite was Stanley Tucci as Caesar Flickerman.

I like that the violence wasn’t gratuitous. It was there and it was creepy, but it wasn’t a blood bath. I like that we got to see the games from other perspectives, like the citizens and family members, and how they were manipulated, which made me hate President Snow even more! It was also so touching. I totally shed a few tears during the reaping and again for Rue. My favorite parts were everything about the Capitol, the tracker jacker scene (I think I’ve tripped like that before! Hahaha!), and of course, the cave/kiss scene.

The only thing I maybe, might, kinda complain about is the lack of back story. It glossed over the history of Panem and the games, Katniss’s past, and her relationship with Gale. Also, it looked to me like Katniss was actually falling in love with Peeta (rather quickly too, like a dumb girl) and not just acting for sponsors. They really didn’t touch on her Peeta/Gale turmoil at all.

But I’m not holding any of that against it. I loved it and thought it was such a true adaptation.
Tell me, tell me, tell me! What did you think?

We went and saw it Friday night. I loved it as well!!! But I do agree with you on the lack of backstory.

I agree - not enough backstory, especially about Prim's goat.

HOWEVER, it's probably one of the best adaptations I've seen in a very long time!

I agree with you. Loved the movie but I felt it was missing some meat and potatoes to it. I didn't like how they changed the story line though. I was a little disappointed about that.

I agree with you about the back story piece. I was quite disappointed with the lack of the love vs. sponsor gifts story, especially since Peeta's love drives the next two novels. I suppose we'll see how it's done...

Given the original (phenomenal) material, I thought they did a great job!

I have a post coming soon. The movie more than exceeded my expectations. I understand that they had to change a few things. I think some things were changed so people who hadn't read the books would understand. If anything, this movie made me extremely anxious for the next one. The casting director deserves a huge bonus. I'm extremely pleased with every single actor. I'm still totally Team Peeta. The one thing I hate they left out was Haymitch falling off the stage. Dude, that was so funny and talked about so much. Oh well, I left extremely happy.

I agree with your observations! I saw it with my boyfriend who hadn't read the books, and after the movie I had to fill him in on a lot of the backstory.

I am probably the only one who hasn't seen it yet ... booo!! We are on Spring Break with the kiddos at the beach, and I am not thinking that this is going to be a movie to take my younger kiddos to. I can't wait to see this next week!!

I loved it. So, so great. I picked Jennifer Lawrence for Katniss long before she was cast and I was so happy to be proven right.

I do agree with you about the backstory, but I have a feeling the Peeta/Gale stuff will be a big theme in the next movie.
